Fish Assignment

Underwater Creature Project
Week 1 – World Building/Digital Art
Brief: Has to be recognisable as an underwater creature, to included real life reference and the finished product has to be 2D, 3D Or a Paintover

Final Renders:

Process:

Inspiration:

 Drawing:

3D Attempt 1:

Box modelled then turbo smoothed for quick design, originally planned for to be concept art however reducing the mesh could mean it could be a game asset. Also easier to Unwrap.

Criticisms:

Redundant Topology
Badly formatted uv's
Lack of Detail on the fish

3D Attempt 2:

Solved the redundant topology with Z-Remesher

Fixed the Uv's by re-unrapping with RoadKill tool

Before with too much stretching and obvious placed seems

After, with RoadKill. Didn't not edit these UV's and used a symmetry modifier after, so they do have issues of not being well placed and laid out. However fixed the issues with the seems and stretching.

Added extra Details
Eye:

Mouth:

Specular & Texture:

Added so fish scales to the fish, then add a specular map. Used scales texture in the specular and added extra realism to the mouth and eye.

Then Rendered the Final Fish in marmoset skyshop

Video on Vimeo channel captures full effect

used lighting and reflections to simulate under water.

Learnt from this project:

Correct Topology usage
Unwrapping with less stretch and seems, especcialy on organic models
The power of textures and Mudbox projection tool to create realsim with out geometry
